A prominent Saudi Imam and preacher at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina has died in prison, reportedly as a result of being held in poor conditions, activists have said. Sheikh Ahmed al-Amari, former dean of the Quran College in the Islamic University of Madinah, died on Sunday, more than five months after he was arrested, said the social media advocacy group, Prisoners of Conscience, which monitors and documents arrests of Saudi preachers and religious scholars. The group accused Saudi prison authorities of "intentionally neglecting" the 69-year-old and "causing his death". Cristiano Ronaldo avoided jail on Tuesday but was ordered to pay 3.57 million euros ($4.1 million) for committing tax fraud when he was at Real Madrid, a Madrid court ruled. The court sentenced Ronaldo to a two-year jail sentence that it immediately reduced to a fine of 365,000 euros, which adds on to another penalty of 3.2 million euros, the sentence read. UAE authorities have denied social media rumours that a commercial plane in distress landed on the Fujairah Corniche and clarified that it was there for commercial purposes before being shipped to Bahrain. On Monday night, social media was abuzz with rumours about the wingless Boeing 747 after pictures and video were taken of the aircraft being transported by trucks along the corniche. According to the state-run WAM news agency, the Fujairah government has clarified that the out-of-service aircraft was there with the government's knowledge “for commercial purposes”.
