    Deputy commander of Iran's Quds Force Mohammad Hejazi dies

    Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi, the deputy commander of Iran’s Quds Force, has died, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement on Sunday. Hejazi died due to a “heart condition,” the IRGC statement said, without elaborating further. Hejazi was appointed as the deputy commander of the Quds Force – the overseas arm of the IRGC – in January 2020 following the US killing of Iran’s top commander Qassem Soleimani.

    Iran says suspect behind Natanz plant attack identified

    Iran has said it identified a suspect in connection with a recent explosion and power outage at its main Natanz nuclear plant, as talks got under way in Austria’s capital to try to save the country’s nuclear deal with world powers. State television said the 43-year-old man named Reza Karimi had fled Iran before last Sunday’s blast that it has blamed on archrival Israel. It showed what it said was a photograph of the suspected perpetrator on a red card that had “Interpol Wanted” written on it.

    India COVID surge drives oil prices down on falling demand fears

    Oil prices were lower as rising coronavirus infections in India and other countries prompted concerns that stronger measures to contain the pandemic will hit economic activity, along with demand for commodities such as crude. Brent crude was down 17 cents, or 0.3 percent, at $66.60 a barrel by 06:43 GMT on Monday, after rising 6 percent last week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) United States oil was down 10 cents, or 0.2 percent, at $63.03 a barrel, having gained 6.4 percent last week.

    Non-socially distanced music festival to be trialed

    British music promoter Festival Republic will host an outdoor gig at Sefton Park in Liverpool, England, on May 2 with 5,000 people without social distancing or requirements to wear face-coverings. However, ticket holders will be required to take a "rapid lateral flow test" at a local testing center before entry to trial the role these facilities could play in the return of large-scale events. According to the statement, researchers on site will "examine the movements and behaviour of the crowd."
